About Academia

Hello!! I’m Lily DiPaulo, a 20-year-old Ph.D. student in mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. I study discrete and differential geometry, topology, and functional analysis, with current research in finite element exterior calculus and the construction of finite element spaces of double-forms and related (p,q)-forms. For the past few years, I have been working with Dr. Yakov Berchenko-Kogan from Florida Tech, and I recently posted my first research preprint on the arXiv. I am strongly interested in collaboration, so please feel free to reach out if you are interested in my work or have overlapping interests.

My research interests are diverse, including but not limited to the following theoretical areas:

• Geometric analysis, particularly minimal surfaces
• Functional analysis & fixed point theory
• Optimization
• Euclidean Geometry
• Combinatorics
• Graph & Network Theory

as well as several applied areas:

• Public Policy, Governance, and Politics
• Computer networks; I am currently working toward my CCNA
• Urban geography and GIS
• Hazmat and industrial hygiene
• Computer hardware, especially display and GPU technologies
• Procedural generation

About Music

Outside of mathematics, I produce music. I have practiced various instruments since I was young, most notably piano, which I have studied on and off for the past 14 years.

When I was in middle school, I became interested in composition and started by making random pieces in MuseScore, but I quickly moved on to FL Studio, which is still the DAW I use today.

I hope to someday become a featured artist on osu! or have my work appear in indie games, and I am always interested in collaborating with other musicians.

About osu!

I also play rhythm games, mainly osu! and osu!mania. My osu! journey has mostly been defined by playing mouse-only.

When I first started, a friend told me that I would never get remotely good at the game unless I changed my playstyle. Out of spite, I decided that I wanted to become the mouse-only player with the highest pp total ever.

I eventually achieved that goal, and I also held the longest unbroken period at #1 of any mouse-only player in recent history. Right now, another player has the #1 spot, but I plan on competing for it again soon.

About Politics

Over the past few years, I have become increasingly interested in politics because of the current state of the American government.

It is easy to tell ourselves that there is nothing we can do, or that everything is in the hands of people with much more political authority. But at the end of the day, I can choose to go into politics and work toward the changes that I want to see.

Because of this, I am strongly considering law school after my Ph.D., with the goal of moving toward public policy and helping make cities in the United States better and more affordable places to live.
